- Standard 4-inch or 5-inch retrofit applications
- Projects where you need consistent color temperature across a unified brand (Satco's 3000K is stable across runs)
I do not recommend it for:
- Shallow or odd-sized housings without verifying fit first
- Applications requiring niche trim types (like adjustable eyeball trims or wall-wash reflectors)—you'd need a different module
- Scenarios where you're trying to match existing non-LED trims for a mixed retrofit
It's tempting to think comparing specs is enough. It's not. The same wattage, same lumens, same color temperature can deliver wildly different results depending on the building's existing infrastructure.
If you're planning a satco led retrofit project, talk to your electrical contractor. Get a sample. Do a test fit. I can't tell you how much that would have saved me.
Pricing note: Satco S3106 kits typically run $12-18 per unit on supply house pricing (2025). Baffle trim variants are usually within the same range. Avoid paying over $25 unless it's an express order or specialty finish.
