If you're considering Zigbee motion, choose fixtures with it built in or paired with a compatible driver from the start. Check 4: Are LED strip lights good for under kitchen cabinets? Yes, with three caveats
This is the question I get most from people doing residential and light commercial kitchens. Are LED strip lights good for under kitchen cabinets? The answer is yes—if you configure them correctly. A bad strip can make a beautiful kitchen look like a workbench. I know because I installed cheap strips in my own kitchen to save money. The adhesive peeled in six months, the color was cold and flat, and you could see every LED dot in the reflection. The 'I'll do it cheap now' decision cost more in the end: $300 for the original strip kits, then $480 for new ones plus an electrician to redo the wiring. If you're pairing strips with small accent lights in a 60mm downlight cutout, keep the color temperature consistent across both. A 3500K strip next to a 4000K downlight will drive you insane.
Satco makes under-cabinet strip kits with the driver and diffuser included. If you're a contractor, I'd still verify the CRI and whether the included driver supports the dimmer you're using. 'LED-compatible' on the package doesn't mean it will dim cleanly with a Zigbee dimmer.
Check 5: Verify color temperature and dimming control compatibility before ordering
This is the least exciting and most expensive mistake I've made. On a 298-unit apartment rehab—actually 298, one was a model unit and one was a sample—I specified 3500K in kitchens and 3000K in bedrooms. The distributor quoted a Satco downlight retrofit with field-selectable color temperature. I assumed the contractor would set each one correctly. They installed all of them at the default 4000K.
